I first heard this account recounted on Way of the Master Radio and it made my eyes moist.

On September 16, 2008, the night was clear and dry when Preston Newby and his wife, Tara traveled along I-5 in Washington State. Suddenly, traffic became chaotic, stopping and swerving so they wouldn’t hit a mighty elk that lay in the middle of the interstate. Along the side of the road was a banged up car with a smashed window.

Preston Newby, 24, a recent alumni of a Portland area Bible college, and Youth Pastor at Lake Bible Church in Lake Oswego, Oregon, knew he had to stop and help whoever was in the car that everyone else was leaving behind. Telling Tara they had to stop, she already knew he would dash to help. It’s who he was, and what he did. There’s no way that he would leave some one behind that might have needed assistance.

When Preston looked in the car, he found a 16-year-old driver who appeared to be injured from hitting the majestic animal. Tara watched as her husband followed the calling of God as he checked on the driver and called 911. Something made her look away at the very moment a car veered from hitting the elk, and instead hit her husband. It’s “by the grace of God” she says, that she didn’t actually see him struck.

Yes, now you, too, can be as (in)famous as Todd Bentley! All you have to do is order The Do-It-Yourself Florida Revival Kit* today!

Just thought a little humor would perk you up before the Monday blues bite. :D

* Taken from Hour 1 of The Way of the Master Radio, first broadcast August 21, 2008.

That, Sir, is a Tradition!Sometimes it makes me wonder why many who subscribe to Sola Scriptura themselves make so much of man-made tradition and even defend it rather than trusting on the Word of God as the final authority. After all, that’s what Sola Scriptura means, doesn’t it?

Case in point: yesterday I heard a podcast of the Way of the Master Radio (July 29, Hour 1) where a listener called up to ask why we still celebrate Good Friday and Easter when it was apparent from Scripture that Jesus was to resurrect three days and three nights after His death on the tree.

Todd Friel defended the position and even tried saying that, well, the Jewish had different ways of telling time from us. I can’t really remember what else he said, because I was going “no, no, no!” by then!

Ray ComfortThe word “disappointment” cannot even begin to describe what I felt after reading Ingrid’s report (you can also listen to the podcast here) of the Word of Faith conference that Ray Comfort decided to speak at.

With all due respect, Ray Comfort, Sir, I must say that I am not in agreement with what you did at the conference. More to the point, I was disappointed that you did not do the right thing.

No, not the right thing that we who disagree with you think to be right, but we are specifically instructed in God’s Word to call out false teachers and expose their false teachings.

I’ll be careful to say that I fully believe that the Gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:6), but this is a different crowd. While there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who do need to hear the Gospel, I believe that most there believe they have heard the Gospel and believed. They can’t be more wrong because they have been misled onto a broad road to destruction by these false teachers and their false teachings.

This morning I heard an account of an evangelism encounter that reminded me of the joy in our hearts when we carry out the Great Commission given by our Lord Jesus Christ and see and experience how God works on a person’s heart, drawing him to repentance and faith.

As Tony recounted this, I was moved as well.

I’ve always liked sermon jams since hearing my first on Way of the Master Radio, and was introduced to great mixers like the brethren at 10:31 Sermon Jams and Relevant Revolution.

After watching a tutorial on YouTube on how one can create their own sermon jams, I decided to try my hand at mixing one up, and here’s the result. It’s my first try so please be gentle. :D

If you like it, please feel free to download the sermon jam (right-click the link and select “Save As”).

Enjoy!

Todd Friel, Way of the Master RadioTodd Friel interviews Mark Haville, a gentleman who used to be very involved in such “outpourings” and “revivals” until he started reading his Bible and discovered that what he himself was doing was not Biblical, and that the power drawn upon was definitely not of God.

The interview, about 15 minutes long, is taken off a segment on Hour 2 of The Way of the Master Radio, first broadcast June 10, 2008.

May this episode be an encouragement and inspiration to you as much as it has me. Sometimes, people are thinking of their eternal fates, and if you feel a gentle push to share the Gospel with that someone, you can be sure that it’s God orchestrating the meeting!

Fish With TrishToday, Augustus “happened” to be wandering around the mall with no place to go. Then he ran into me and I asked him, “Do you have any thoughts about God and spiritual things?”

“For sure… I’ve got plenty to say!”

Instantly he wanted to talk about God.

So we put him on The Way of the Master Radio and afterward he was very moved by the law. He got off the program and his eyes filled with tears as he explained, “I was asking God for a sign — last night… you know… I needed to hear from God… and then he brought you.”

The beauty of God's creations“I was a true atheist, addicted to pornography and a big fan of torture. I hated the Bible and literally looked at “contract killer” as a career option. I favored Darwinian abortion of potentially disabled children and agreed with the majority of Adolph Hitler’s statements about the disabled and invalid. I fantasized about murder and contemplated suicide and held nothing but hatred in my heart for anyone who told me I was wrong. In short, I was the most degenerate scum to ever walk the earth. That God saved me is still so far beyond my comprehension I have to wake up every day and think ‘wow’.”

This was brought to my attention at Symphony of Scripture since I don’t have a television set, much less cable.

I wonder who they are referring to when they replaced “Jesus” with “Shepherd” and called that shepherd “Lord” and “Savior”, amongst other things.

Unfortunately, the world doesn’t give two hoots about glorifying the name of Jesus (oh! if only they knew of Philippians 2:9-11!), but neither are many churches nowadays to be honest. Throw in the Emergents and Universalists and what you get is a big bowl of confusion.

Ray ComfortIn case some of you don’t already know, I love listening to Way of the Master (WotM) Radio — I think it’s one of the better Christian radio programs available over the Internet, in addition to White Horse Inn.

A feature of the daily two-hour broadcasts on WotM is street evangelism, when they share the evangelism experience with listeners.

I’ve been listening to the station for some time now, and I think this is one of the most touching and encouraging evangelism experiences I’ve heard — it reminds me of two important points when it comes to sharing our faith:

  1. Never judge a book by its cover, and don’t be intimidated by tattoos, chains and spiky hairstyles on people, or just their outward appearances. In all honesty, most times we tend to think such folks bite and will chase us away with their fists, mock our attempts, or just won’t bother to listen.
  2. Don’t count on your ’strengths’ to convince the person. Present the Gospel and let the Holy Spirit do the work in convicting the hearts of those who have heard the Good News.

Listen as Ray Comfort (that’s him in the picture) talks to Brad:
