Sabbath

That, Sir, is a Tradition!Sometimes it makes me wonder why many who subscribe to Sola Scriptura themselves make so much of man-made tradition and even defend it rather than trusting on the Word of God as the final authority. After all, that’s what Sola Scriptura means, doesn’t it?

Case in point: yesterday I heard a podcast of the Way of the Master Radio (July 29, Hour 1) where a listener called up to ask why we still celebrate Good Friday and Easter when it was apparent from Scripture that Jesus was to resurrect three days and three nights after His death on the tree.

Todd Friel defended the position and even tried saying that, well, the Jewish had different ways of telling time from us. I can’t really remember what else he said, because I was going “no, no, no!” by then!

The past couple of days has seen a flurry of exchanges between several brethren on the issue of the observance of the Sabbath that I brought up.

Just in case anyone is wondering why I’m keeping silent since I was the one who brought the issue up, I’m still in study on this — yes, I know I’m taking a rather long time, but I like to be thorough.

That said, I’ll be frank at this point and say that the conclusion I am drawing right now is not in alignment with what I have previously suggested. Furthermore, I doubt that this premature conclusion would see any turns and twists towards the end, enough to see a total reversal.

Thank you, everyone, who participated in this debate. I’ll soon make my conclusion known along with a clear explanation of how I arrived at it — that I might not lead anyone astray with my previous suppositions.

There are two things that might come to your mind when reading the headline that I just posted, namely

  1. I am now advocating Seventh-Day Adventist doctrines
  2. I am out of my mind because, well, the mark of the Beast is traditionally believed to be some micro-chip that will be implanted into the foreheads/hands in the end-times

A short answer for your doubt on point (1) is an emphatic “no”, while my answer for point (2) is that we don’t know for sure, and the theory about the microchip might just be what it is — a theory.

Whatever it is, we should let the Word of God speak loudly to us on the issue, and this is where I would recommend that you should watch this video (which is about 1.5 hours long) explain how we have strayed from observing the true Sabbath that has been given to all — Jews and Gentiles alike — by God since Creation, instead choosing to follow the tradition of men given to the world by, horror of horrors, the Whore of Babylon!

Frans Francken II. Sabbath. Canvas. 1607Daniel at Messy Pastor mentioned that in our zeal to observe the Sabbath on the proper day as sanctified by God, we shouldn’t fall into the danger of still being bonded by the old Laws as did the Galatians.

Previously, I have written quite a lot on the importance of observing the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week just as God had sanctified it.

That led me to earnestly read Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

Life in the synagogueI finally caught the name of the Fellowship — it’s called Hephzibah Christian Fellowship and is listed as a non-denominational church.

And I’ve also got the location down pat.

The building is actually along the stretch parallel to the MRT line between Queenstown and Redhill stations.

But the most interesting part is that I managed to get hold of the phone number and had a chat with Michael, one of the elders of the fellowship.

Among the things I learned is that they observe the Sabbath from 8pm Friday to 8pm Saturday, and are celebrating the seven feasts of Israel this week. I’ve also been invited to their celebration of the Yom Kippur on Sunday.

They don’t call themselves a church per se, but a gathering and fellowship of believers, hence the name. About 80 people make up their regular group, which is what I like as well, small and rather comfortable.

So it all looks like I am quite prepped to pay a visit tomorrow at three in the afternoon to learn more!

Hallelujah!

Shalom Aleichem.

The ShofarIt’s Sunday evening here, and no doubt many Christians across the country and the world would have already attended church services or are preparing to attend one.

Which makes it a perfect opportunity to discuss what some have asked me about a statement I made in my old blog on the fact that I believe we Christians should keep the sabbath on Saturday instead of Sunday.

I am not a Seventh-Day Adventist; it just happens that I agree with them on this point about observing the sabbath on Saturday instead of Sunday.

So why do most churches observe what they call “The Lord’s Day” on Sundays?

The Reasons Why

From what I understand, there are basically two reasons why:

  1. Church tradition has most people believing that Christ was resurrected on Sunday after His crucifixion on a Wednesday afternoon
  2. Constantine, the Roman Emperor who claimed to have converted to Christianity (but in fact created a false church) decreed Sunday to be the day of worship. At the Council of Laodicea, in A.D. 363, the following formal decree stated: “Christians must not Judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, resting rather on Sunday. But, if any be found to be Judaizing, let them be declared anathema from Christ.”
