Fourteen years, 2,300 scientists from 40 countries and some US$5 billion later…
Scientists in Connecticut and around the world will be watching closely today when their colleagues in Switzerland flip the switch on what is being touted as the world’s grandest experiment in particle physics.
If all goes according to plan, the Large Hadron Collider, a gigantic particle accelerator underground near Geneva, could re-create the very moment 13 billion years ago when scientists believe a tremendous explosion known as the “big bang” created the universe. (Source)
Back when I was learning to drive, I “discovered” a pretty nifty extension that the instructors use to have over-riding control of the car — they had the brake pedal extended to the passenger side of the car to immediately stop the car should anything go wrong.
It was a good thing that my instructor only had to use it once when I made a rather stupid mistake while making a U-turn. With the additional brake pedal on their side, it didn’t matter how much I stepped on the accelerator pedal; the car just wouldn’t move until the instructor was entirely sure that it was safe to move on.
In many ways, God’s sovereignty in our lives is much like the instructor and his extended brake pedal. While the additional safeguard in the car made me feel at ease (mostly), God’s sovereignty in our lives should give us joy.
Some say I am harsh, unloving, and even having a “profound self-righteousness in my own denomination” as one comment puts it on another blog. I am not concerned with these brickbats though on many occasions I do re-examine to see if I was indeed being self-righteous, so please accept my thanks for those reminders.
Initially, I did get riled by the comments, but since reminding myself constantly that I don’t labor for the applause of man but of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and that I must never seek gratification for my flesh, but the honor and glory of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I strive on leaning on His strength.
So, to those who wonder why I am such a Christian, seemingly harsh and unloving, please take some time to watch this sermon (104 minutes) that turned my Christian life 180 degrees away from carnality. I’ve never, prior to hearing this sermon by brother Paul, understood the holiness, love and mercy of God thus. It broke me and had me in tears the first time I heard it, and hearing it again and again never fails to break me and spur me on to seek the face of my Lord.
I pray that you, too, shall be broken, and come to live a life acceptable to God, and that even if you have to appear harsh and even be ostracized, you seek that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be honored and praised and glorified above all for He alone, and only He, is worthy.
The Greatest Words in All of Scripture
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.
I have never had a thing for Christian rap — I just thought that such artistes were simply taking a secular musical format, mixing it up with some reference (no matter how minuscule) to the faith and trying to pass it off as “Christian” when in fact the lyrics still sounded very much secular to me.
For a while, I was quite convinced my observation held true, and I think I might have been right.
However, I recently came across a Christian rap artiste called Shai Linne and his creations gave me a totally new perspective on Christian rap. I am not saying that all that I disliked before have now become appealing, but that this brother has probably single-handedly redefined Christian rap for me.
His pieces are very Biblical, and you can even say that he’s a perfect rapping companion to preachers like Paul Washer, John Piper and John MacArthur in the sense that what he espouses in his music are along the same lines as what these good brothers teach. Moreover, if you like sermon jams, you won’t find his creations too difficult to like.
Might I even go as far to say that he’s a “Puritan rapper”?
This is one of my favorite pieces, The Gospel, from his new album The Atonement (which you can purchase from iTunes Store or directly from Lamp Mode Recordings) which talks about the book of Romans.
I’m going to see how I can get my hands on a copy here (iTunes Store is, unfortunately, not available for this part of the world)!
An amazing story of a couple’s love for their son, and a testimony of their joy and hope in Christ Jesus.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
Romans 8:35
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.†Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9
Oops, I know… I’d have warned you with a tissue alert, but that’d have taken away some of the impact the video was intended to have. I personally cried buckets.
Though in past years I’ve made quite a few new year resolutions, I am not in the habit of making them nowadays.
The chief reason is that I have never been able to keep one well for an entire year. I believe the longest period of time I’ve kept one is about three months or so, and I am quite certain the actual duration might be a lot shorter.
So why make resolutions that I know I can never keep, eh?
The advertising adage that sex sells is taken to new extremes today — if you can’t think of some refreshing concept for a product or service, just slap on a nude female form (cover it in some cloth or put it in silhouette so that it passes the censors though) and there’ll be many who will notice it.
Job done.
Our senses are bombarded with sexual images all the time throughout the course of a day that you need to be blind in order to totally ignore them because they are just so in-your-face.
