I’ve been giving this some thought myself — with the release of quite a few Study Bibles in the past few months including the NLT and the one from the folks at ESV to come in just a few more days, will we see more and more of a centralization of Christian thought and interpretation based on the work of scholars and not based so much on the guidance of the Holy Spirit?

Are we, in fact, ourselves appointing a “magisterium” of sorts?

Bookstores: My Favorite HauntAn email from a good brother, Coram Deo, about his visit to a Christian bookstore in the U.S. while on vacation prompted me to share my experience with such bookstores in Singapore.

Now, I love books and am someone who loves browsing through a bookstore for hours on end. Borders at Wheelock Place used to be a favorite haunt of mine. Ultimately, the fact that they are a secular bookstore just means that I have not much interest in what they had to offer.

So I spend much of my time in bookstores in Christian establishments. There used to be one at Jurong Point, the nearest mall to where I stay, but the small shop has since closed down and given way to some store selling items that have a wider consumer appeal.

Ah, the wonders of free enterprise!

CHC building -- money that could have been better spentForeword: this is a word out to Christians out there, and please understand that I do it in all love as I care about your salvation and what you’re learning from church. Sure, I might not know you from Adam, but my concern for you as a brother or sister-in-Christ compels me to write this even as I know it might draw a ton of flak.

Listen to me, and listen well: if you desire a true relationship with God and a real Christian walk, stop listening to the filth that is coming out of that pulpit at City Harvest Church!

This is my personal comment on the teachings of the pastor Kong Hee, after watching his sermon presented this morning (Sunday, January 6, 2008) via the net.
