My brethren and sisters have really been busy the past few days with a good number of posts!

# The Passion of Reformation: Our Great Salvation… Chosen by God; Sanctified by the Spirit; Redeemed by the Son by Steve Camp.

# With many of our brethren and sisters poised to vote for the next President of the United States soon, Dr. R.C. Sproul gives us some food of thought with Principles for Voting.

# Tim Challies reviewed Michael Horton’s book Christless Christianity, and it sure looks like it’s a must-read! Here’s his conclusion:

This book is a call for the church to return to its biblical foundations and to remain true to those convictions. It is a clarion call and one that Christians would do well to heed. Christless Christianity is an excellent and timely book and one I would not hesitate to recommend to any Christian.

# My good brother and friend Daniel recently bought himself a molehill of books and has done reviews of two that he’s read so far — Logical Criticism of Textual Criticism by Gordon H. Clark and The Market Driven Church by Udo W. Middelmann.

*Cough!* Ahem, yes, that includes *cough!* me.

And, yes, it’s ironic that this is from an online podcast, but it speaks volumes when it comes to looking at the almost indecent amount of time some of us spend online instead of being buried in God’s Word and engaging in prayer.

One particular thing that Pastor Dustin Segers said really struck me and somehow reminded me of the term corban (Mark 7:9-13). While the Jews that Jesus was admonishing were breaking one commandment to fulfill another, we are doing the same here — taking time away from our families, loved ones, and devotion to God (who should be our first love) while giving the excuse that we’re doing His will.

From SliceCast:

Pastor Dustin Segers: A Word to Christians Online

When we as Christians interact online, how do we keep from becoming distracted by the mockery, scorn and sin that dominates in much of the blog world? Does it matter if we neglect our families in pursuit of “sound doctrine?” How do we keep our focus on Christ when we face constant attacks from those who are enemies of the cross? Pastor Dustin Segers of Shepherd’s Fellowship in Greensboro, North Carolina minces no words on this podcast today. Christians have to be on guard against those who would draw us into foolish debates and arguments, gossip and time wasting pursuits. Psalm 1 provides the guideline: don’t waste time with the scorners. We are to be like Nehemiah, refusing to leave God’s work for fruitless debate and argument with those who will not acknowledge the truth. In this Slicecast, there is something for everyone who spends time online. We need to examine ourselves regularly to make sure our conduct is Christ-honoring and focused on the tasks God has given us. We’re not wrestling against people. This is a spiritual battle, and that is easy to forget.

I pray that this audio podcast speaks to you too, especially if you, like me, spend a lot of time online, and that we’ll learn to strike a balance. You can also download the MP3 of the podcast at SliceCast.

Karen and I have benefited greatly from the ministries of teachers like John MacArthur, R.C. Sproul, John Piper, and of course, Paul Washer. In fact, we have benefited so much from the teachings of these God-fearing teachers that very often we wonder how we can contribute to and support their ministries.

Those who know us well will know that when it comes to a monthly donation, we aren’t exactly in the financial position to do so right now.

I’ve therefore been thinking that we can perhaps start small — that instead of just downloading sermons that we have found helpful in understanding God’s Word, we could perhaps actually pay for them (or their MP3 equivalents anyhow) even if the sermon or sermon series was available as a free download.

For example, single sermons at Grace To You, John MacArthur’s ministry, cost just US$2 (S$2.90) and a series of sermons go for about US$6 (S$8.50) so I thought it’d be a good way for us to show our appreciation and support the ministries at the same time.

What do you think? Is it a viable option for us to support the ministries?

Pastor Voddie Baucham teaches how we ought to ask the age-old question on why bad things happen.

On a separate note — looking back, I thank God I didn’t get into the course I wanted at University because I did want to major in Philosophy!

I am currently listening to some of Pastor Voddie’s sermons, after having just ‘discovered’ him and his church, Grace Family Baptist Church, thanks to a great list of his sermons on MP3 compiled by Reforming My Mind.
