Excellent, excellent sermon that’s a must-hear. I heard this when it was first posted up a couple of days ago and knew I just had to share it!
From Lane Chaplin:
“God helps those who help themselves.”
It’s not in the Bible. It’s even anti-Biblical, but, as Ken Jones of the White Horse Inn has pointed out, many “evangelicals” think that it’s in the Bible and, when they find out that it isn’t, they think it should be. Jeff Noblit lays that myth to rest in this sermon.
May it edify you as it did me.

Isaiah:
you clearly haven’t been up to date. The Voice “translation” does teach that God helps those who help themselves….
@ Daniel Chew:
Hmm… I am indeed! I’ll have to do some “Christian yoga” and breathing exercises to keep up then…
I’ve having trouble finding the words to express how I feel about this video….I am just astounded at the fact that God loves us even though we are so vile. This was a wonderful message. I rejoice in the fact that God is who He is yet I am humbled and repulsed by who I am.
When he gave that example of the guy who raped that little girl, I thought to myself ‘now that’s an evil person’, but then he said that we were no better and he’s right. I think we tend to view people as evil by the degree of sin they’ve committed, all the while not realizing that we are no better - that our sins are just as vile and just as deserving of God’s wrath as the rapist.
Watching this video was very humbling - thank you for putting it up. Got lots to think about now.
@ Carol:
I totally agree with that point he made on how vile we are as well, and, like you, I didn’t really see it the way he said it was prior to listening to the sermon.
It got me thinking that when we do that, it’s a form of self-righteousness, much like the Pharisee who prayed (Luke 18.10-14).
It is ALL ABOUT HIM! Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing it.
