Hillsong Says: Reformers Fought for Nothing

Hillsong: Savior King

Looks like it’s a musical Monday today…

This piece of news, taken from Symphony of Scripture, rather saddens me because I’ve always quite enjoyed the more Biblical songs by Hillsong such as Hosanna and Savior King:

Hillsong church are promoting and uniting with the gospel of the Roman Catholic religion. On a poster advertising World Youth Day, Hillsong worship leader Darlene Zschech says:

“We see WYD08 as a great opportunity to serve the Catholic Church in its vision to present the gospel and reach out to our city, our nation and our world in unity.” (Source)

Serve the Roman Catholic Church, the Whore?!

And which gospel would that be, Darlene?

Moving forward, I don’t see myself spending any more money buying their CDs and thereby indirectly supporting the preaching of a false, ecumenical gospel.

    I have stopped buying Hillsong CDs for quite awhile when I noticed it has gone ‘commercial’ - i.e. you see some CDs packing a whole bunch of old songs with just a few new ones.

    I have aware of the controversy hanging over Hillsongs for some time, but this takes the cake. Bleh… Have been transitioning over to people such as Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman et al. Too bad Sovereign Grace Music is not sold in Singapore.

    You’re quite right — even the newest offering which I intended to purchase initially has a few old songs thrown in as if it’s a compilation.

    Unfortunately, not just SGM, but countless others aren’t available in Singapore. I guess we don’t have a large enough evangelical base to be considered a market.

    By the way, if you haven’t heard of Pilgrim Radio, give them a go. It’s a 24-hour Christian station and I love it for its programming.

    @Isaiah -

    Hey Bro Isaiah,

    there is an issue i will like to point out. i watched Paul Washer video sermon last night on gospel and salvation. He mentioned that 2 people.

    The first person say the theres no difference between the church and the outside world where theres is sexual immorality and divorce rates the same. It is grace that saved them.

    The second person says that the church now is a whore, sexually immoral and need to repent to be saved.

    Washer mentioned that both is wrong and in danger of judgement. Because a church is properly defined as the group of regenerated and borned again people, not everyone who attends church service. To call the bride of jesus a whore is blashemy.

    My point is, i have seen many websites and also yours mentioning the roman catholic churches is a prostitute/whore. But are there really saved, and borned again catholics which truly believes in jesus christ and have a regenerated heart, hates sin, although confused in doctrine regarding mary and the pope etc? If yes, then shouldnt we be more clear and careful about defining the catholic church, and the immoral group amongst the church.

    Theologically, the concept of the universal Church is differentiated between the Visible and the Invisible Church, where the Visible Church consists of all who profess Christ, while the Invisible Church consists of those who truly believe in Christ. If such a differentiation is not made as seemed to be the case above, then certain Scriptures cannot be interpreted correctly, for example the warnings against apostasy in Heb or the reality of apostasy as seen in 1 Jn. 2:19. Therefore, I disagree with such a definition.

    Moreover, since it is impossible to know for sure among professing Christians who are hypocrites and who are truly saved, then who can anyone be said to be part of the Church (as defined as ‘the group of regenerated and born [sic] again people’) since nobody know for sure 100% who is a hypocrite and who is not? Certainly, none of us are God and know the hearts of man!

    Well, well, well…I’m trying to find appropriate words to convey my feelings after reading this, so here goes. Has Hillsong lost their mind??? Were it not for the Reformers, you’d have no Bible, no right to sing all them flashy songs y’all are famous for, and salvation by grace through faith in Christ would lead you to the stake!

    This is more accurate: Hillsong Says: Thank’s for the Ride, Guys, Let’s Go Home to Rome

    Thank you for visiting, S&P. :)

    It’s perfectly fine with me for the article to be referenced, brother, so don’t worry about it. I’ll even drop by and participate in the discussion there if anyone’s discussing it.

    Shalom Aleichem.

    @lee -

    While I do not doubt if there might be true, born again Christians among the one billion Roman Catholics worldwide, we must also note that if they were indeed born again, they’d leave that system totally.

    I’d go as far to say that knowing the errors of the Roman Church, such people will not be able to truly reconcile the truth that they now know with the falsehoods taught by the Roman church! And I submit to you that there should then be no confusion on issues such as Mary worship and the position of the pope if they indeed believe the Bible to be true.

    My wife herself left this evil system, and a good pastor whom I have come to know, Ken Silva of Apprising Ministries is another. Ken has written much on the Roman Church that you might be interested in.

    Scripture calls the Roman Church the Whore (Revelation 17) anyhow. :)

    With regards to your question, I quite agree with what Daniel has said about the theological perspectives. That said, I’d think it’d be more appropriate to perhaps refer to calling it thus as blasphemy only when the “Bride of Christ” is specifically mentioned. Unfortunately, the word “church” today can mean so many things to different people that it’s hard to pin down in some cases. Personally, I refer to the body of true believers as the “true Church of Christ”.

    I hope this answers the question somewhat.

    There is really more to worship music than just Hillsong, they are just so pervasive. At a church I know, if you remove Hillsong songs from the worship time, the song worship time will be cut out by at least half !

    Just like to share an excellent alternative which I am sure will edify your souls and lift your spirit to sing and praise God: EVERLASTING GOD by Wilds Men’s Ensembles.

    After searching to buy it on the internet for a while, I finally bought it at FEBC bookstore for only SGD17.00.

    Check it out here

    @Thy Word is Truth -

    Wow! How did you know I love choirs and prefer hymns, brother? :)

    I guess the fact that I spent my maturing years as a Christian at Life B-P gave it away. Those are beautiful! Hopefully Tabernacle at Calvary Pandan will have the CD as well.

    Going by the previews, my favorites so far are “I’m a Soldier” and “For Me to Live is Christ”.

    Thank you, brother, you’ve been a blessing!
