Sexy School Uniforms and the Depravity of Man

A recent uproar in Malaysia over remarks that school uniforms worn by school girls in the country are too sexy and encourages rape and pre-marital sex is both amusing and a great reminder of how depraved the minds of man are.

While I don’t agree that the girls are the primary ones to be blamed and men are just responding to their lusts as it is in their nature to do so, I’d like to state that it doesn’t matter if the school uniforms are perceived to be sexy to begin with, but that the total depravity of man itself is the primary lesson we can all draw from this episode.

Don’t look so surprised or shocked when I say this — that sometimes it doesn’t matter what a woman wears or how she looks, but that if a man has his thoughts on lust, those factors don’t matter one single bit. A woman can be all covered up, but some men can still have perverted pleasure in undressing her in their minds!

What I am driving at is this — that while it is advisable to dress conservatively, there are still men out there so perverted in their minds that they will still see you as a sexual object rather than a person.

Ladies, don’t be surprised either, because you aren’t much better off. Though you are not built to be titillated by visual stimuli as men are, there are other factors about a man that will turn your minds towards thinking of enjoying sexual pleasure with him. It can be olfactory, his voice, or just his confidence, or maybe how his eyes twinkle when he smiles.

In addition, we cannot deny the fact that there are women who are out to deliberately titillate just because they feel some form of sexual power being able to tempt and tease men into becoming slobbering dogs. And thus the world spins, with these men falling over themselves to please the women through various means (usually financial), while they entertain the thoughts of getting into her pants.

It just all points to one fact — the total depravity of man.

Though a person might consider himself good because he hasn’t committed crimes like rape, robbery or even murder, what he thinks about in his mind on numerous occasions is so filthy and so much a cesspool that if his thoughts can be read and projected onto a movie screen, nobody will ever want to be his friend after viewing it!

Lest you think that I am playing the saint here, let me state that I, too, am a man, and I have my dirtiest and most perverted thoughts as well, so much so that if you could read them, you’d brand me a pervert and of a sick mind!

Some think wrongly that just because they fully observe the laws of society and listen to their consciences, and therefore qualify as good people since they have done no wrong on the surface. Yet, the Bible tells us that no one is good, because what is in our hearts and minds is continually wicked!

Yea, society and your friends might call you a good person, but that is because they cannot see and read your wicked thoughts! However, God does, and those secret, perverted thoughts of yours are known to Him.

Jesus said that whoever looks at a woman with lust, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Mathew 5:28)! That’s how God sees us, and there’s no way we can hide our thoughts from Him who made us.

Perhaps you also wrongly think that by keeping the Law (the 10 Commandments) you qualify as righteous and a good person, but again God has said that whoever breaks one single law breaks them all (James 2:10), i.e. you might think that you have kept all the 10 Commandments well, but if you just break one, for example, by lusting after a woman in your heart, you are deemed to have broken all the laws in God’s sight.

Therefore, none can do good, and whatever good that we think we do is alike used sanitary napkins and tampons (Isaiah 64:6). By our own efforts, none is able to work towards salvation, not one!

My friend, have you been thinking that by your good works you can be saved? God’s Word says no, but God, in His mercy and grace, has given us His free gift of salvation through the death and resurrection of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ that whosoever believes in Him will no longer stand in condemnation before God but pass from death to life.

God is merciful and loving, but He is also a just Judge, and being a just Judge, He will punish you for your sins and transgressions against Him. Your good works will not make you right in His sight, just as a murderer pleading that since committing the murder he has been doing good donating to old folks’ homes and feeding the hungry cannot escape the punishment that is due.

Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2) — cry out and confess your sins to God; repent (turn away your sins) and put your trust in Christ Jesus alone!
