Over the last few nights, I have been having a recurring dream, more a recollection actually, of an event that happened more than a decade ago, and which I know for a certainty is an act of God, perhaps to preserve me on earth to do His Will or as a reminder of His sovereignty over my life.
Nevertheless, it begs sharing, and here I shall do exactly that.
I was working for a local Internet company that was located at Pahang Street, just a street behind the main thoroughfare that is Beach Road. It was a bright afternoon, and I have just come back from a meeting with a client at another location when I decided that I’d park the car nearer the office since I was quite tired and it was only a couple of hours or so before I could leave work.
The street is a one-way, with parking lots on one side of the road which requires one to parallel park. I don’t particularly like to do so, but the lots were empty that afternoon and I could simply maneuver the car into any spot I liked.
As I pulled into a lot, and began slightly adjusting the position of the car so that other drivers that might come along later could park comfortably, I had the gear in reverse. At that moment, I had wanted to step on the brake but somehow my foot went onto the accelerator instead.
You could probably tell what happened next as my car started going against the flow of traffic at full throttle, while I, surprisingly, had no control over what was happening and even floored the accelerator. When I finally came out of the stupor and stepped on the brake, I discovered that I had traveled past the intersection, and stopped just mere inches from another car parked just down the road.
I was shaken because any minute movement of the steering wheel would have landed me, some innocent pedestrian or both of us in hospital, or even claimed our lives!
The street was quite busy, because there were many food stalls located in the shop-houses that lined it. I also discovered that while my car was reversing full-speed down the street, there had been quite a few cars that past by. Now, if I had just slightly turned the steering wheel one way, I’d have had collided with an oncoming car!
It took me some time to regain my senses, then decided to leave the car parked where it was, for I was already very much shaken and didn’t think I should be behind the wheel again for awhile.
Since then, I’ve stored this episode deep in the recesses of my mind but the recurrence of the dream the past few nights might be that God is telling me something, the most obvious of which is that He is sovereign over my life and has kept me unscathed from that harrowing experience for His purpose.
When you think back on your life so far and all the experiences that you’ve had, both good and bad, I am quite certain that, like me, you’ll realize that God has been steering and drawing you towards Him all that time. That alone fills me with much gratefulness to never stop praising our Heavenly Father for His mercy and grace!
Hallelu YaH!
