Sharing the Gospel With Your Children

Emeal Zwayne -- Passing the TorchYes, yes, I know the fact that I don’t have any children doesn’t escape you, so what am I doing talking about sharing the Gospel with one’s child(ren)?

The upside is that it’s not me that’s doing the teaching, but a pastor, Emeal Zwayne, whom I think did such a great job of sharing it with his children that I decided to record the portion they played at Way of the Master Radio and share it with you.

The entire sermon can be ordered at the web site of said radio station.

What would I do if I had children of my own, you ask?

I’d probably tell them from a young age that I don’t really mind if they don’t become doctors or teachers or professionals or whatever career that’s popular in their time, but that I desire that they be men and women of God first and foremost.

I think that’s the best motivation ever — that in whatever they do they first glorify God.

I leave you now to enjoy the 5-minute track1.

Please forgive me. For the message being delivered is truly wonderful; but when I started to listen unto the audio file provided: I about fell off of my chair because of laughing so hard. For it sounded like I was listening unto Bob The Tomato and Larry The Cucumber from Veggie Tales or maybe a couple of “The Chipmunks”; and since I already think that Todd Friel sounds way too much like Howard Stern in regards unto his voice over the radio: my rather twisted sense-of-humor got the best of me. (Yes, I am quite sure that the audio quality has more to do with the fact that I am still using a computer that was built in 1897 than anything else.)

    Sorry,

But kids can’t think for themselves. They’ll believe anything. Including a man who can fly a sleigh and a giant bunny that hides eggs for children to find. Also in a fairy that exchanges teeth with money.

What makes one think that telling them about a deity that wants their attention is any different than indoctrinating them with these other things?

Further, is one to tell their children to be little Republicans or Democrats from a young age? “Yes hon, tax cuts are good, okay?” Would you tell a 4 - 7 year old this?

Little kids can’t comprehend many things. Telling kids of Hell or eternal punishment borders on abuse in my book. And telling them your beliefs and pushing that on them is anything but fair. You encourage non-thinking and over conformity instead of individuality and critical thinking.

    Awful, just absolutely awful.

Before the “But it is the truth!” line comes out, please note that beliefs are not truth, no matter how much you believe it is. Simply stating things doesn’t create the facts.

There is a severe amount of dishonesty going on in the world and parents are abusing their authority too much. It’s amazing to what length a parent would go to ensure a child survives their afterlife before they are old enough to even be able to ponder such things.

You’re forgiven for your weird sense of humor, FishHawk, lol! I do really hope that it’s not my recording that added enough helium for Alvin & The Chipmunks to have made an impromptu appearance on the show.

It’s the first time I’ve recorded something off Internet radio and edited the sound file.

    Shalom!

Oh dear, is it really so?!

Hm… I failed, huh? Let me see how I can salvage this. Oh, what an embarassment! :(

Excellent audio clip. What a great way to tell the story of Jesus and instill a sense of justice and/or punishment for wrong doing. I was taught about Jesus as a little child and I knew they were true. As I grew up and dabbled in other religions, in the back of my mind, I knew that I was doing wrong and I TRIED to believe the lies but I just couldn’t. I knew who Jesus was and I couldn’t get rid of Him even though I tried. I think children learn MORE and soak up MORE when they’re little.

    Thanks, Carol!

Wait, you mean to say that the audio clip played ok for you? No Chipmunks performing?

You are blessed. I didn’t have that told to me when I was young. Christianity was always pushed and relegated to some decadent Western religion, and that I should be proud of my Chinese heritage and stick to my culture and gods.

What you said is so true — once the Truth is planted, you cannot shirk it off. It’s just a confirmation in some ways that the Word of God as given to us in the Bible is the Truth, because we humans who are the creation, respond to it in the deepest recesses of our consciousness.

No other religious doctrine and teachings have ever had that hold on me, and I’ve explored a few and been taught a couple.

    Shalom!
