Which Theologian Are You?

by Isaiah on January 24, 2008

Here’s the result of a pretty fun quiz that I did just awhile ago.

It’s just quite surprising that I’d be identified with John Calvin. Hmm…

Which theologian would you be?

Which theologian are you?

You scored as John Calvin. Much of what is now called Calvinism had more to do with his followers than Calvin himself, and so you may or may not be committed to TULIP, though God’s sovereignty is all important.

I got maximum similarity to Charles Finney

Casey January 24, 2008 at 10:41

I scored 100% with Anselm, although I can’t say I’m that familiar with his ideas…The name does sound vaguely familiar, though.

Sicarii January 24, 2008 at 10:49

I think this is Anselm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anselm_of_Canterbury.

I’m not familiar with him either, and am just reading up since it happened that my wife had an equal score being linked to Anselm and Martin Luther (she blames it on her Roman Catholic upbringing).

I think I have done this quiz before, and sure enough, after doing it, I am more than convinced it is the same quiz. The person who made this quiz obviously does not know the nuances in theology, as the results do not match the truth.

Personally, I scored 100% Karl Barth and 100% Anselm, which was ridiculous because I detest Barth’s theological method. The stated reason I scored Barth was because I said ‘that the revelation of Christ, not human experience, should be the starting point for all theology’. Utterly ridiculous! And such was the belief by John Calvin, Jonathan Edwards, and all Reformed theologians for centuries. And if one were to talk about emphasis, Barth’s emphasis was not on the primacy of revelation, but of the analogy of revelation (which undermined Sola Scriptura. Those who opposed his method like John Gresham Machen, Cornelius Van Til and Gordon Clark all emphasized the primacy AND actuality of revelation.

So I wouldn’t be too upset about the results, because the quiz is bad. Too simplistic also. Though I am interested to know how someone can be like Paul Tillich, and why they choose Tillich instead of the more famous Tiehard de Chardin… =)

Oh, btw, it is not bad to be compared to Anselm. Anselm was not a Roman Catholic; he was part of the Old Catholic church, and I am convinced he is a Christian.

Tielhard de Chardin?! Nooooo… I don’t like that guy! I’m sure you’re kidding, right, Daniel? ;-)
I’m not that good with theology, nor theologists, but doing this quiz has led me to reading up on some of them besides Calvin whom I am very well acquainted with, coming from a Bible-Presbyterian background. Oh, and Tielhard of course, because I read a whole book about the Jesuits.

Shalom!

Some of those questions were worded kind of strangely.

You scored as a Karl Barth
The daddy of 20th Century theology. You perceive liberal theology to be a disaster and so you insist that the revelation of Christ, not human experience, should be the starting point for all theology.

The other one was Martin Luther. I don’t know who Barth is anyway.

Sicarii January 24, 2008 at 20:18

Neither do I, Carol, and I do agree with you on the wording of the questions. I just take it as a chance to learn about some theologians I’ve never heard of. ;-)
Shalom!

Mike January 25, 2008 at 05:38

I took that quiz some time ago. I scored very high as Anselm.

childlife January 25, 2008 at 06:06

That was pretty interesting, Isaiah : D I scored highest with Luther and Anselm. Have a great weekend!

Sicarii January 25, 2008 at 09:01

Ha ha, looks like I am the only Calvin fella around then! I’m glad everyone had fun with the quiz. :-)
Shalom.

channelofhealing January 25, 2008 at 10:53

Isaiah you have changed your template again!!!

Godbless

Alan Higgins January 25, 2008 at 11:31

I’m the daddy of the Reformation, Martin Luther

Sicarii January 25, 2008 at 11:59

LOL, ChannelofHealing.

Yea, I was trying to do up my own theme but it’s not working out as well as I’d like it to. I think I’m getting the hang of the code stuff though. ;-)
Shalom.

Sicarii January 25, 2008 at 12:01

Great to see you dropping by, Alan. :-)
Shalom.

Shalene January 25, 2008 at 17:12

I scored as Anselm. I don’t have a clue about him, so I guess I’ll have to read up on it. The questions were worded strangely, though, I do agree. They almost didn’t make sense, some of them. So anyway, just thought I’d share. Blessings and Shalom!

Isaiah:

haha, I was mentioning Tielhard de Chardin because his theology is no different from Paul Tillich in substance, with Tillich being the ‘Protestant’ counterpart to the Jesuit de Chardin. Both of teach Process Theology, of which I have the fortune (or misfortune) to encounter while reading a book (Deeper than Darwin, which I have reviewed on my website) which promotes it in a manner to reconcile “Christianity” (read Liberal heresy) with Evolution.

Hi Isaiah,

Cool quiz…not sure I totally agree that I am a 100% match with Anselm, but it was fun to think about.

Shabbat Shalom to you and yours,

Free

Sicarii January 26, 2008 at 18:51

Heh, yea, Shalene, the way I see it is that it’s a good opportunity to read up on theologians that I’ve never even heard of before. Thank you for sharing; I always appreciate your feedback. :-)
Shalom Aleichem.

Sicarii January 26, 2008 at 18:53

Thank you for the invite, John, I’ll check your site out soon!

Shalom.

Sicarii January 26, 2008 at 18:59

Daniel:

I learned something new from you again today. I had no idea Tillich was the Protestant equivalent of Tielhard de Chardin. That saves me some time then, but I’ll go have a look at your review also. :-)
Shalom Aleichem.

Sicarii January 26, 2008 at 19:00

hiya Free, it’s great to see you again! I’m glad that you enjoyed the quiz. :-)
Shalom to you and yours, sister.
