The Best Christmas Gift

Are you making a list of what you want this Christmas? Are you counting out money and budgeting for the list of presents you think your relatives and friends would like? Are you busy scouring the departmental stores everyday after work and on weekends like a honey bee just to find that perfect gift?

Well, stop.

Because the best gift on Christmas day is already there for the taking, and it’s free.

It is the free gift of eternal life and all you need to do is believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to live among His people in the flesh, suffered for all our sins, was crucified and was resurrected three days later.

And He did it all because of you and me. The Bible tells us clearly what Jesus Christ endured so that He could redeem us from our sins and bring us back to God the Father.

He was despised and rejected by men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.
By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his generation, who considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people?
And they made his grave with the wicked
and with a rich man in his death,
although he had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in his mouth.

Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him;
he has put him to grief;
when his soul makes an offering for guilt,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted righteous,
and he shall bear their iniquities.

Isaiah 53:3-11

My dear friend, the true meaning of Christmas is not a day of partying and exchanging presents. Rather, we remember that We Are The Reason that Jesus Christ came to Himself as the perfect sacrifice so that those who believe on His Name shall have eternal life!

This is my favorite Christmas song of all time, which I shall share with you this Shabbat.

Shabbat Shalom.

    A resounding Amen!!! You know, the only time I’ve heard “Jesus” or “God” mentioned during these holidays is when I’m here, on the blogosphere! Jesus and God are simply not mentioned and most likely forgotten. We should be thankful for the gift we already have and ask to be more like His Son Jesus - now THAT’S a gift that should be coveted.

    Hi Isaiah, though I do celebrate Christmas, as a means of remembering and celebrating Jesus’ birth, I think we all need to remember His Glorious coming each and every day of the year. I wrote a post about this, that I think you may find interesting. Visit if you like. http://msp31wannabe.blogspot.com/2007/12/reason-for-season.html And for the record, though we do give gifts (small ones) we’ve quit going out of our way to make the holiday a day of giving gifts. I mean, let’s face it, the tradition probably started with the Magi giving gifts to Jesus, but they didn’t do it when He was born. They came when He was a toddler! We are trying to reinforce a tradition of giving to others that are need this season. Blessings to you, my friend.

    Dear Carol, Shalene, ChannelofHealing,

    Thank you, sisters, for all your comments on this post. Just to clarify some subtle point — this post was meant to reach out to non-Christians more than Christians. Maybe I do need to work on my evangelism efforts via blog posts. ;)
    Carol: Indeed! In fact, I’ll like to ask for some other things along those lines too! :)
    Shalene: I agree with you! It is His Glorious coming that I look very much forward to as well! Perhaps I gave the wrong idea, but by no means did I say that buying and exchanging gifts on Christmas is a bad thing. I read your post on that and I totally agree with you that Jesus wasn’t born in December and that this is just a tradition that presents itself as a good day to celebrate that He came to save us. Hallelu et Adonai!

    ChannelofHealing: You’re most welcome, sister! I pray that we shall all never forget this greatest gift of all!

    God bless you all!

    Shalom Aleichem.

    Hi Isaiah, I also wanted to come back here and give you a link to something I found interesting. I’m thinking of doing a post about it, but I’m still composing it in my mind. The link is about Hanukkah, and how it IS a perfectly acceptable tradition for Christians to embrace as well. It’s found here: http://www.blueletterbible.org/ look under “New Items” a little way down on the page. It is an audio file that you can either listen to there, or download it to your computer. Anyway, just wanted to share that. Blessings and Shalom!

    hiya Shalene,

    Thank you for sharing this.

    You know what? I’ve been thinking and reading up on Hanukkah as well! Will go and have a listen to the sermon. IMO, it could be a better ‘tradition’ to celebrate Hanukkah than Christmas (which has pagan origins).

    God bless, and Shalom!

    Isaiah, after listening to this, I thought so too. BTW the IMO mean “In My Opinion”? I’m thinking it does, but don’t want to assume. You know what they say about those that assume. :)

    Oops, I’m still listening to the audio — it takes some time to download files at this time of the night for some reason.

    Ha, ha! I’ve heard that ‘assume’ joke before. Yes, it does mean ‘in my opinion’. :)
    God bless!
