The Silent Majority Speak Up

The Silent Majority

And it’s about time too!

As an apparent and deliberate response to an ongoing public online campaign calling for Section 377A to be repealed, a group in Singapore calling itself “the Majority” has set up a website with an open letter to the Prime Minister urging for the retention of the law instead.

Section 377A states that homosexual acts between men is a punishable crime. If apprehended and charged in a court of law, the guilty can be sentenced to a maximum of 2 years’ imprisonment.

In the letter, the group notes that

Section 377A is a reflection of the sentiments of the majority of society. Most Singaporeans hold conservative family values and do not accept homosexuality as the norm. Repealing Section 377A is a vehicle to force homosexuality on a conservative population that is not ready for homosexuality.

No doubt there will be detractors wondering if the group has the right to call itself “the Majority” or to claim to truly represent the “majority” views of Singaporeans. In fact, I can almost already read the disparaging comments that might be left on their web site by those who support the repeal as I myself have experienced.

However, what is heartening to see is that there is now a group of people who are campaigning against the repeal, and not choosing to remain silent on an issue that concerns us as a society.

And, that, in itself is a big step forward in the name of equality, the favorite and most-oft cited word of those who argue in support of the repeal.

By the way, as one of those who oppose the repeal, I’d like to personally state that this is not an exercise of my rights to curb the choices or deny the rights of homosexuals to state their choices as many would like to see it. Rather, it is my view, or opinion, on the call to repeal Section 377A.

Unfortunately, there’s no link to the site from the news report (it’s not the job of the news agency to provide it anyhow since it’d be better if they remain impartial), but once I find out where the site is, I’ll post it here as an addendum.

ADDENDUM:

It is likely that S377A may in the end be repealed. It is my opinion that whoever is more vociferous would win out in the end and the noisier may not necessarily be the voice representing that of most of the people.

Its all politics. The majority still feels that gay is wrong.
Do you think your politicians would risk their ricebowl?

personally, i feel that people should be given a choice.

Remember AUSCHWITZ, Poland, where Christians (then 80% of Germany) condoned it.This is a Satanic ploy. When you sign it, the church is signing itself unto judgement.

Lamb, how did you arrive at that 80% figure? Where are the references?

The onus is on you to prove your statement. You owed it to the people reading your comment, and you owed that to the German people, whom you have accused.

    Lamb:

Might I know how you arrived at those conclusions — first the 80% who condoned it and secondly, that signing the petition to keep 377a is a Satanic ploy?

    Thank you for visiting.

The analogy to Auschwtz is flawed. In fact, it is precisely because the church did not speak out against the fascist movement earlier that Nazi Germany came into being. Similarly, we must learn from history and not let the modern homofascist movement reapeat history and cause the destruction of our society. To quench their consciences, the homofascists will stop at nothing until everybody must say and act as if homosexuality is normal; any dissenting voice will be jailed and fined, which is the fate that Western nations are facing now. Stop the homofascists at the root now so that history will not repeat itself!

It’s going to be some kind of a HATE crime, for anyone to speak up against homosexuality in the USA. My friend, whom I had dinner with today, brought up an interesting point, he said “Not everyone who commits anal intercourse are homosexuals. There are those perverts who would do it to another man for their own perverse nature. To argue that 377A discriminates against homosexuals, the repeal would be implicitly ’support’ the perverts. Now, if one would argue that 377A be repealed to just target the perverts, then wouldn’t that be suggesting that homosexuals are perverts too?”

He certainly raised an interesting point. It reaffirms my view that not everyone who stood for 377A are ‘brain dead conservatives’ or ‘fanatical religionists’. A lot of them did think deeper about it. And his final comment was “I am surprised there is even an issue over this. It’s simply common sense to me.”

    Dear Daniel:

Thank you for visiting again and for the comment.

You are very right — history has shown that it was exactly because the Roman Church did not speak out against the Nazi movement and Hitler that such atrocities happened.

God bless you brother, and Shalom!

I am totally against repealing and totally (totally) agree that Section 377A must be enforced. These perverts are pushing their luck too far. [Section 377A states that homosexual acts between men is a punishable crime. If apprehended and charged in a court of law, the guilty can be sentenced to a maximum of 2 years’ imprisonment.]

Though it is a punishable crime, the Government took pity on these perverts and not prosecute them. But they (the perverts) took it that the Government supports or condones the act and thus makes them brazen enough to want to repeal the Act. So, my suggestion is for the Government to act and act fast.

We really don’t need the pink dollar and the Government don’t need their votes, as they make up the minority.

Imagine if the Act was repealed or abolished….

    1) We will see more appeals from offenders of other punishable crimes
    2) We will see more petitions to repeal other Acts as well
    3) Male toilet cubicles will be full of these perverts doing their business there
    4) More perverts will be standing in the middle of all urinals peeping into unsuspecting males answering their nature’s call
    5) More perverts will use the swimming pool toilets to exhibit themselves (hoping to attract someone like them) or peeping at unsuspected male bathers
    6) We will see more Gay massage parlours sprouting everywhere and have them (the pervetrs) doing their business along dark alley ways, corners or even staircases (as is the case now).
    7) We will have more males pretending to be teachers or tutors/counsellors to youths (especially boys) and molesting them
    8) Soon, most parents will not send their children to Singapore for studies or work, for fear of being molested.
    9) How can we build our population size to 6.5 million when we have 2 same sex parent who cannot procreate.
    10) We will have more gays entering into Singapore from abroad and all hell will break loose.

WE WILL BE OPENING A PANDORA’S BOX. IT WILL BE HELL BREAKING LOSE. IT WILL BE MAYHEM.

So, I want to see 2 things done.

First, Section 377A being enforced and punish anyone flouting the law. Please be firm. Secondly, these perverts should learn to shut up and put their mouth where it shoud be (fellatio on another male) or else be pushed even further.

    Please heed PM Lee’s words.

Don’t pollute, tainte or contaminate our society.
