Tag, You’re It!

I got tagged by Casey to reveal seven things about me that you do not already know, so here goes:

  1. It used to be my ambition to be a radio disc jockey because I loved music so much. I actually had the Top 10 charts in the 80s clipped from magazines like Smash Hits and others.
  2. I learned Japanese so that I could understand what the Japanese singers were warbling about when I was caught up in the Japanese music invasion in the mid-80s. Because of a lack of practice, I have lost most of my Japanese skills, but I can still write and read though understanding the words can take some time.
  3. I prefer dogs to cats.
  4. I spend more time in front of my PC than the television. About the only television programs I watch are House, CSI and CSI:NY, CNN, BBC News, and documentaries.
  5. When I was a child, my parents got very exasperated with me taking apart every mechanical toy that my maternal grandmother gave me. I was trying to find out how they work, but could never find a way to put them back.
  6. Though I no longer do any programming work, I am still a geek at heart and do like to fiddle around with code and templates once in a while as a hobby. I’ll die if you ask me to code full-time again.
  7. I have a squint in my left eye due to an accident in college that I am quite conscious of, and therefore avoid taking pictures as much as possible.

There, now you know more about me. :-)

Here’s a tag coming your way, my dear brothers:

I’d love to tag everyone on my blogroll, but rules are rules, sigh!

  1. Wow.. so you’re into 80s music huh? Guess what? Me too!!! I have hundreds of them on my iPod. Karma..Karma..Karma.. Karma Chameleon.. Hahaha. They bring back so much memories. Thanks for the tag. It’s an honour. I’ll do it ASAP, Sir! :-)

    Heya Daniel:

Nice of you to pop by again, brother!

Haha, yes, 80s music still tops my charts. I guess its because its the music that defined our growing up years.

Back then, I liked to think that I was a early adopter of sorts, since I was listening to U2 way before people started noticing them. No doubt Culture Club was one of my favorite groups too, heh!

Looking forward to reading your entry, brother.

    God bless, and Shabbat Shalom!

  3. House! I knew I was forgetting one. I like that show, too. :)
How about Europe (the 80’s musical group, not the continent)? Do you like them?

  4. Sicarii said

Not a big fan of Europe, to be honest. Mainly due to the fact that the radio spoiled it for me by playing their hit songs “The Final Countdown” and “Carrie” ad nauseum.

    Oh, I love House’s humor. :-P

  5. I like Europe, because they made a song called “Ninja.” Ha, ha. The 80’s were great!

  6. Sicarii said

We are beginning to sound like a buncha oldies, lol! When I bring up the 80s, some of the engineers in the office look at me wide-eyed and go “That’s when I was born!”.

That’s when the age hits… right between the eyes! :(

  7. Sicarii said

There was another song with Ninja in it… can’t remember who did it, but it had a title “Aitomo Ninja” or something.

  8. Ha, ha. Never heard of that one, before. I was shocked when I realized the other day that there are 17 year olds out there who were born in 1990!

  9. Sicarii said

Now you got both of us depressed…

  10. Hey! Why aren’t I on your blogroll anymore?? Booooooooooooooooooooo :-P

  11. I know what you’re saying. I am a hair band fan!! I love 80’s rock. I also played in a country/western band from 85 to 92 and you know what’s sad? The stuff we played is now on Classic Country stations. Makes me want to cry!!

    Oh yeah…Tag! You’re it

    Lincoln:

Hmm… you are not kidding. It must have fallen off the roll somehow when I re-organized it a little. You’ll still be there, brother, because you are one of the first people in the blogosphere to encourage me to continue blogging. :-)
I’ll get to looking into it in a while.

    God bless!

    Dear Mike:

LOL! OK, yours is a little depressing than Casey’s and mine. You win. :-P
I was into big hair bands too — there’s Skid Row, Poison and a whole lot of others that I can’t remember much of now. But my favorite was Guns N’ Roses, ha ha! I don’t really listen to them now, but they still bring back good memories when they come on the radio.

Oh no, tagged!! I’ll get on it, brother. :-)
    God bless!

  14. Skid Row? Wow. I still listen to “Wasted Time” and “I Remember You.”

  15. Good to know, I thought maybe I ticked you off and had a curse put on me. :O

I’m an 80s rock nut myself, you know, Air Supply, Chicago, REO Speedwagon, now THOSE guys knew how to jam. :D

  16. Sicarii said

    Casey:

    I love “18 to Life”. :-P

  17. Sicarii said

    Lincoln:

Nah, since when did you do that? And there’s no way I can put a curse on anyone nor do I wish to.

Ooh, I love those groups too. In fact, REO Speedwagon’s “Can’t Fight This Feeling” is the “our” song for my wife and I. :-P
Who’d have known that this has become a small gathering of oldies? :-P

  18. You know how many people I cheese off on a regular basis? It’s a wonder I’m still alive. :D
Can’t Fight This Feeling is one of my top favorites too, but Glory of Love and You’re The Inspiration beats it out. And pftttt, we ain’t oldies. We iz cool. B)

  19. Sicarii said

Give me a figure. I don’t stalk, you know? :-P

  20. How cool! I totally wanted to be a radio DJ too when I graduated from high school in 1984. My dad talked me out of it and I’m still upset that I allowed him to. lol

  21. Sicarii said

Really? You probably would be living a very much different life today if he didn’t oppose and you made it as a DJ.

I guess you also loved 80s music a lot back then! Which were some of your favorites?

  22. Ok you guys are old!!! Just teasing. I think we’re all probably around the same age. My oldest daughter is wearing all the same things I used to wear in High School. Now that’s when age starts to hit your right between the eyes! When your children are wearing the same clothes because they’re now back in style. Remember Stussy? I have a T-Shirt that my daughter has claimed and wears all the time, because it’s so stylish now. She gets “cool” compliments on it everytime she wears it. :) Ok, now you guys made me feel old, and I’m really not that old. I still feel 15. :) Blessings and Shalom. (I listened to and loved all those same groups, too.) :)

  23. Sicarii said

Pfft! Nooooo! No old-timers stories! :-P
At least your daughter thinks you’re cool too! It’s funny how some ‘vintage’ stuff do make a comeback in a big way. Like I said, there’s no stopping the classics, and the 80s was classic!

Honestly, its what you think about yourself that makes you old, not the physical age. If our minds and hearts remain young, we are young.

Although… sometimes I think that and try to do some physical stunts and my body loves to butt in and let me know for sure that I am indeed old, SIGH!

Lovely gathering of the 80s teen generation here now, so much so I want to play Pat Benatar’s “We Belong”! :-)
    God bless, and Shalom Aleichem!

  24. I hear that!! I did a carwheel about a month ago at the park with my girls, and while I managed to pull it off, I was soooooo sore the next day. From a cartwheel!!!! I try not to do stuff that causes my body to tell me I’m older than I feel. :) Blessings and Shalom.

  25. Sicarii said

ha ha! At least you managed a cartwheel! I think I’ll get sore at this point in time if I even attempted half a cartwheel. :-P
Well, I’ve got some streneous physical exercises coming my way to be done because I’ve got my reserves call-up first week of November (Singaporean men like myself have to do a maximum of 40 days reserve duty in the Army every year till we are 40). I’m not looking to the aches and pains.

    Blessings and Shabbat Shalom!
