Casey once told me to get off my ass to find a new church to attend and fellowship, and I think I have managed to get both of that done just this morning.
There was only standing room inside the cabin of the train I was riding to work — which meant that I was off my ass — and saw a large yellow banner between, I think, Queenstown and Commonwealth stations, that advertised a church service at 3 pm Saturday on the Law of Moses.
(I board the train at Lakeside train station and alight at Tanjong Pagar every morning.)
That looks good! Now, I cannot tell for sure if they have services only on Saturdays or if it’s a one-off, but I have rarely seen churches advertising services on Saturday so that’s one positive sign.
The second positive sign was that it was talking about Moses’ laws — now here’s probably a church that is true to the Bible and not advertising some message like “Believe and Prosper!”. OK, so no church actually does advertise the latter message, but I got a positive vibe so I am going to go with it.
And the final positive sign? It looks like a new church that doesn’t yet have its own building but is renting space in an old school or factory building that’s been converted for commercial use. And experience tells me that most new churches start that way here in Singapore.
Maybe they are indeed SDA, but I gathered the SDA folks would have built a new building for a new church.
Perhaps there are Christians in Singapore who do share my vision of what I’d call a Reformed Church, and have come together to set up one!
All will be known over this week’s Sabbath, and I really pray the church will be as what I think it is.
Shalom!

Good luck to you bro. It’s really hard to find one that recognize Sabbath on a Saturday. Even if they do, they would be facing a really uphill task and alot of criticism from alot of church-goers.
But there are churches that runs Saturday services as subsidiary services. They still conduct the main service on Sunday so a Saturday service don’t really says alot until we get to know their practice.
-
Ed, Casey: Thanks, mates! I will try my best to find out more before I head down Saturday. I hope I get to catch the name of the church tomorrow if it isn’t raining which cuts down visibility quite a bit, and hopefully they have a web site that has some info.
Still don’t understand why church-goers in general still berate those who have services on Saturday. I guess it’s a misunderstanding that those who do are from SDA and in some kind of cult?
-
Not really cult like… one theory I often come across in Singapore is because of time-zone difference. Morning service in Singapore is still Saturday in the other half of the globe. So based on that, I agree it’s still a legitimate unproven theory.
However like you, when I put the timezone factor aside that’s when I start to disagree with the majority of the churches. There isn’t any biblical references at all that God or Jesus officially reinstate the change in Sabbath Day.
-
Huh? Timezone difference?
That’s not a valid point, is it? I mean, during the Diaspora, I don’t think the Jews observed Sabbath according to Jerusalem time. They would have observed the Sabbath according to the timezone in which they are in.
By the same argument, isn’t Sunday also subject to timezone differences? LOL!
-
LOL at the timezone difference, myself. Beware of interpreting the letter of the law like the Pharisees did =p
that said, I’m pretty curious about what you guys agree/disagree with the SDA Church. Reason: I was raised in a staunch SDA family. In fact, my dad’s a pastor in the church.
And while I’m as wayward and a church drop-out as you can get, I’m still curious as to what you guys think =)

Jase, Casey:
Hm… I didn’t know you were the son of a pastor, Jase, lol! OK that’s something new I learned today.
As for what I disagree with the SDA on, I’ll get back to you on that, as the 5 minutes I am stealing now to reply won’t do my points any justice. Hopefully I’ll be able to do that this evening.

hi just came across ur post
so have u found a sabbath church in singapore yet? i would really like to know becos i’ve been looking into this the past few weeks but with the exception of the SDA, not been able to really find one. please let me know, thanks! -
hi cc:
Thank you for visiting my blog. I initially found one — Hephzibah at Queenstown, but if I am not wrong, they require that men be circumcised for membership.
I don’t agree with that and stopped attending. To be circumcised while we are already under grace is to put ourselves once again under the Law in my understanding, and that’s a big no-no for me.
So I’m still in the process of looking for one. If you do find one, do share with me.

Shalom.
