Coming across other Christian blogs and getting to know some of the authors, there’s one thing I realize that I come up short when it comes to my walk with God.
Prayer.
I am not comparing myself with them in some kind of weird competition to see who has more favor from God or something but I realize that, from reading their blogs on a regular basis, that they are prayer warriors who have a real desire to communicate with God.
And that’s one aspect of my walk with God I want to improve on. Paul exhorts us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) but that’s what I never do, not even sporadically.
I’m ashamed to say that most times I do treat God as some vending machine — you know, like, I only go to Him when I have issues or troubles and then hope that He delivers me from the troubles.
God is faithful and He usually answers my prayers, but right after I stop talking to Him through prayer and live life as if He isn’t the Master of all.
What brought me to write this is also the fact that over the weekend I was reading something on giving thanks everyday for the things that we have and in the situations we are, no matter how bad things are.
Because only through continuously giving thanks for what we have and what we have achieved will we not become discontent. The author went on to expound that if we become discontent, then we might fall away and sin against God in our struggle to succeed beyond what God has bestowed upon us.
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
This is not to say that we should just do enough in our lives, but rather, when you have reached a goal with God’s help, give thanks and be thankful that you are there. If God decides not to further your cause, give thanks also, for it is His will that you are there. In all things, let His will be yours.
I hope you’ll remember me in your prayers to ask God to open my heart to talk to Him more often through prayer.

I’m not very regligious but I enjoy reading blogs about God and religion. Nice post
Hi Sicarii,
I shall be praying for you as well. I hope you find that prayers to the Lord continuously is not something that is overly difficult to do, once you just start doing it. Think in terms of talking to yourself, only instead of talking to yourself, talk to God. Tell Him your worries. Tell Him your thanks. Tell Him your anxieties. Ask Him to show you the proper Christian response to a wrong (you know those conversations we tend to have with ourselves about what we could or should have said to someone- have them with God instead.) Blessings to you my brother.
hi there Shaun,
Thank you for visiting my blog and the kind words.
Shalene,
Thank you for offering to help pray for me to start trusting more in the Lord and go to Him in prayer.
I guess the primary reason is the fact that I’ve been quite a solve-it-by-myself kinda guy from young. Ask my wife and she’ll tell you how exasperated she can be getting me to open up and actually ask for help, lol!
Guess I need to have a different view on obtaining help when walking with God, because as the years pass, it’s not difficult to see that some issues just cannot be resolved by our own strengths alone.
I shall endeavor to become a prayer warrior, with all your prayers!
Hi Sicarii,
Check it out here: http://msp31wannabe.blogspot.com/2007/08/simply-talking-to-god-by-shalene.html Blessings to you, my brother.
You inspired yet another post. I’ll have to start calling you my muse.
hiya Shalene,
LOL! I am honored, really.
I have just read it and left a comment. It’s an excellent post and I have definitely learned something from a prayer warrior!
And for that I thank God for you, and for making your acquaintance through blogging.
Incidentally, I was reading up on prayer and came across this:

How true it really is!
You’re absolutely right. It’s as if I wrote those words of myself because none of us have the prayer-life that we really desire. I just finished reading Yancey’s book on prayer and it was VERY good, encouraging, eye-opening, etc. Yet prayer isn’t yet an automatic with me yet. It’s more than knowing prayer is important, it’s prioritizing it in our every-day lives. That’s why I appreciate your honest comments. May we all develop the prayer relationship with God that He desires for us.
Shalom Ryan, thank you for visiting my blog and sharing!
Amen, I pray that we shall, brother. I’ll go have a look at that book that you mentioned. Looks like an interesting read indeed.
God bless!
